RABBI J HAUSMAN,
or Rabbi J as he's generally called,
is the Orthodox rabbi who had
over 100 rabbis, ministers and priests
sign a condemnation of him.
Now how did that happen?

Rabbi J learned a lot
from his father and mother.
His father:
you have a head, use it.
His mother:
an iconoclast for her generation.
Rabbi J - Jonathan - is a chip off the old block. In fact, he got a lot from both his parents. He has used his head, something his father valued. He made his synagogue a venue for freedom of thought and speech - something both parents valued.
His father also told him not to get into trouble, to go to university in order to learn and not in order to argue with his professors. On the other hand, his father - who went to university after World War II on the GI bill after 4 years and 6 medals on the Pacific Front - almost got thrown out of university.
Anyway, Jonathan did not almost get thrown out of university, or Egypt where he afterwards had the opportunity to spend a year.
But half a dozen years ago, he was targeted by the Southern Poverty Law Center and labelled the most hated rabbi in America. Over 100 rabbis, ministers and priests signed a condemnation of him. As a consequence, he almost lost his position. In fact, he believes it is only the intervention of a very close friend, a Christian pastor, that saved the day.
Very important for Jonathan. He wants to know that, at the end of the day,
he has had a life well lived,
has taken responsibility,
has done what he could, has been a mensch.
For more, here is his story.
